Julia at 13 months
On her 13 month birthday, Julia went to visit Santa Claus. Her initial reaction to sitting on his lap was to burst into tears, but she quickly regained her composure. She couldn't bring herself to smile though...
She does better at her own house where she gingerly reaches out to touch the Christmas tree, tries to hang the bells on it and loves the lights. She even says "ho, ho, ho" and "tree."
In other exciting news, Julia started walking on December 5th. She is getting pretty good but still needs an assist to get to standing and often walks backward or rocks side to side. Mom and Dad are thankful that she's taking it slowly and not running yet!
At this age, Julia loves to put things in (anything) and take them out. She moves things from one location to another and points to what she wants. A few times she has grabbed our hand and moved it to what she wants us to get. She loves to open and close doors, cabinets, drawers. Her favorite game is hide and seek and she'll put her hands out to the side, palms up when we say "where did it go?" She also thinks it's really funny to find your belly button. Julia still loves music and when she's "dancing" she'll sway so far from side to side (while sitting) that she has to catch herself with her hands.
Julia still has an excellent appetite and will eat anything we feed her. It's hard to come up with new things to try and to get them to her fast enough. She especially loves fruit, cheese, carrots and yogurt. She has started brushing her teeth (she has 8 now and is working on some molars). And if you ask where her nose is (or blow your nose) she will sniff or crinkle her own nose. And I swear today she blew her nose into a kleenex for Dad.
Unfortunately, Julia had her first ear infection this month. It didn't seem to get her down too much though, thank goodness.
We are always amazed that Julia understands so much of what we tell her and demonstrates by following simple directions. When she is exploring something new, she'll look at us to see if it's OK. And while she is such an angel and a happy baby, she's definitely starting to test boundaries and let us know when she's not satisfied.
